Holiday Modular Origami

Modular origami, which involves building multiples of the same paper unit and piecing them together into geometric structures, offers surprisingly diverse and beautiful results. In this workshop, you will learn about the history of modular origami, receive tips about folding and piecing the origami designs together, and leave with at least two sample projects: a holiday wreath and a circular ornament. Class will meet twice with time in between to work on folded components.

"Imagine a technique that marries a centuries-old folding tradition with geometry, repetition and modern aesthetics... this is kusudama. This style of modular origami, which involves building multiples of the same unit and piecing them together into geometric structures, offers surprisingly diverse and beautiful results, from traditional floral-inspired designs to those verging on the molecular. In this workshop, you will learn about the history of kusudama, receive tips about folding and piecing them together, and leave with at least two sample designs started and many resources." Class will meet twice with time in-between to work on folded components.
